Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer Released

During Super Bowl LII last night, Lucasfilm released a teaser for Solo: A Star Wars Story, saying that a full trailer was coming today. The teaser showed off a new-ish Millennium Falcon, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, and Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo – one of the Star Wars franchise’s most iconic heroes. The much-anticipated trailer was aired today on Good Morning America – another Disney property.

The trailer shows off the origins of Han Solo. In the film, the young Corellian says that he’s been running scams since he was a kid, was kicked out of a flight academy for “having a mind of my own,” and goes on to say that he wants to be the best pilot in the galaxy. He meets with Beckett, a new character played by franchise newcomer Woody Harrelson, who tells him that he’s putting together a crew.

The trailer for Solo lends a new vibe to the Star Wars universe, much like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Solo seems more a gangster/heist film, with plenty of gunfights, crazy flying, and narrow escapes along the way. This pays tribute to Star Wars creator George Lucas‘ love of speed and his understanding of youthful, testosterone-fueled adventure.

From what we can tell from the trailer, Solo might not be the disaster a lot of fanboys thought it would be. But one question still remains: do we really need a Han Solo prequel? We think that it couldn’t hurt, given that Episodes 1-3 were technically prequels.

In any case, we’ll all find out when the film hits cinemas on 25 May, 2018.
