John Cena in Talks to Star in Duke Nukem Film
John Cena is currently in talks to star in Paramount Pictures‘ Duke Nukem, a big-screen version of Gearbox Software’s long-running video game franchise.
Paramount Pictures has picked up the rights and tapped Platinum Dunes, whose franchises include The Purge, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and is operated by Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller.
Cena, who began his career as a WWE star before moving on to film more than a decade ago, making his debut in The Marine back in 2006. Since then, he has gone on to become a notable film star in his own right, with credits including 12 Rounds, The Reunion, Trainwreck, Legendary, Daddy’s Home, Daddy’s Home 2, Sisters, and The Wall. Cena has also done some voice acting, notably as the lead character in the animated comedy Ferdinand.
Cena will be starring with singer-actress Hailee Steinfeld in Paramount’s upcoming Transformers prequel, Bumblebee: The Movie.
Duke Nukem first appeared in the 1991’s Duke Nukem, developed by Apogee Software. A notorious loudmouth, Duke is a cigar-chomping musclehead, who sports Ray-Bans and a squared buzz cut as he fights aliens to save planet Earth by using his big-mouth attitude, enormous physical strength and expertise in firearms. He has appeared in 19 video games to date, most recently in 2016’s Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour.
John Cena has become one of our favourite actors and in our opinion, is an EXCELLENT choice for Duke Nukem. We can’t wait to see how it turns out.
