[Infographic] Here are 5 BDSM Movies You Should Check Out

According to those that practice BDSM, there are very few films that portray BDSM (which means Bondage/Discipline, Dominance/Submission, and Sadism/Masochism) accurately, and/or are using BDSM as a sexy plot device. This can be a bit of an insult to people that embrace their “roles” in BDSM.

There are some great BDSM-related films that have managed to successfully show the many different ways the BDSM lifestyle is done, and they’re all films that that probably you’ll love, no matter how “vanilla” you may or may not be.

Maitresse (1975)

This French film from director Barbet Schroeder’s film tells the story of a small-time crook called Olivier (Gerard Depardieu), who inadvertently burgles the home of professional dominatrix Ariane (Bulle Ogier).

A Dangerous Method (2011)

David Cronenberg explores the psychoanalytical aspects of BDSM humiliation via a love triangle between Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender), Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen) and their complicated patient Sabina (Keira Knightley).

9 1/2 Weeks (1986)

Adrian Lyne’s erotic drama is about a divorced gallerist (Kim Basinger) who becomes involved with a hot-shot Wall Street broker with a thing for dominance, played by Mickey Rourke.

Crash (1996)

David Cronenberg boosts the kink factor by exploring a world in which film producer James Ballard (James Spader) and his wife, Catherine (Deborah Kara Unger) indulge their sadomasochistic desires by engineering car crashes.

Secretary (2002)

It’s hard to believe 50 Shades writer EL James wasn’t influenced by this witty film about a clumsy, awkward young woman (Maggie Gyllenhaal) who meets a mysterious domineering businessman called Mr Grey (James Spader) and develops a submissive relationship with him. Sound familiar?
