Thirty Seconds to Mars Announces New Album

The uber-awesome Thirty Seconds to Mars announces the release of their new album in a really big way.

On 18 March 2013, American rock group Thirty Seconds to Mars announced that its fourth studio album, “Love Lust Faith + Dreams” will be released on May 21 through Virgin Records. Frontman Jared Leto described the new album to MTV News as “provocative.” “This is a really important album for us. It’s an evolution… this album is more of who we are than we have ever been before. And we’ve gone to an entirely new place, which is incredibly exciting.”

In addition to the new album announcement, they also introduced the first single from the album, “Up In The Air” in a team-up with NASA. Earlier this month, the first copy of the new single was launched into space via a SpaceX cargo mission, where it was played by astronauts on the International Space Station.

“Love Lust Faith + Dreams” is Thirty Seconds to Mars’ first studio album since 2009’s “This Is War,” which featured the hit singles “This Is War” and “Kings and Queens”, and according to Nielsen SoundScan, has sold more than 460,000 copies. The album artwork is by legendary British artist Damien Hirst. The image, called “Isonicotinic Acid Ethyl Ester” is part of his “Spot Paintings” series.

The group, which includes brothers Jared and Shannon Leto, and Tomo Milicevic wrote and recorded “Love Lust Faith + Dreams” in Europe, India and California, and was produced by Jared Leto and Steve Lillywhite. Previously, Thirty Seconds to Mars supported “This Is War” with a colossal arena tour, playing over 300 shows worldwide. Will their new album be as successful?
