Limitless is an action-thriller based on the novel “The Dark Fields” by Alan Glynn. The movie is about a down on his luck writer named Eddie Mora (Cooper), with severe writer’s block. And before he becomes limitless, he’s well on his way to being homeless and girlfriendless. He comes across an experimental mind-enhancing drug called NZT. The drug unlocks 100 percent of the human brain, giving the new druggie a 4 digit IQ, and the ability to learn just about everything. Cooper uses the drug to gain money, fame, women, cars, women, cool vacation spots, parties, women, you name it. And we totally forgot to mention that he gets women, too. He eventually gains the attention of corporate big-wig Carl Van Loon (DeNiro, who is not a woman), who wants to use Eddie to make billions, and a couple of otherwise unsavoury characters (also not women), who want Eddie’s stash of NZT or kill him.
One of the things that we liked the most about the movie is the fact that it shows the up and downs of taking the drug, via colour. When someone is on the pill (ji ji ji), the world has a yellow hue, and when they’re off of it, or crashing, the world has a gray look to it. Pretty cool to us. The screen kept flickering at the cinema we were in, and if it was done on purpose, that was a dick move on your part Herr Direktor. Gave our editor a headache for the rest of the night.
But if this was NOT in fact your fault, then F**K you AMC [Theaters]. You’ll be thrown up upon, followed by a phone call from my lawyer. Although the cinema used to be a Kerasotes, now that we think of it. Who do we blame? Anyway, we’re getting off subject…
We liked the movie a lot. Kinda made us want the damned pill a lot. But if any of you are planning to go see this with any hopes of it being Oscar-worthy material, you’ll be wasting your time. So just go watch the movie just for the sake of watching and being entertained by a movie.
If you haven’t seen this movie, you should definitely do that. You won’t be disappointed.
