We went to see Hanna recently, and we weren’t as impressed as we thought we would be. As a matter of fact, we would’ve rather seen ‘Hop’. That doesn’t mean that we thought it was a bad movie, though. But here’s our take on the movie anyway.
Hanna is about a girl, played by Saoirse (pronounced ‘ser-sha’) Ronan, who was raised her whole life in the Arctic wilderness and trained to be a killing machine by her father, played by Eric Bana. After she is ready, he leaves her alone to fight villainess Marissa (Cate Blanchett). The movie has a great cast, but the storyline is kind of mediocre.
Ronan did a great job as Hanna. During the fight scenes, she had a look on her face like, “I’ll kill you if you keep staring at me”. She did an amazing job in her fight scenes.
The movie has an energetic pace to it, and the thumping soundtrack from the Chemical Brothers, adds to the urgency of the film. The fight scenes were nicely choreographed, but very Matrix-like in the sense that you could tell when the fights were about to happen by the music. Some fight scenes should just jump out at you, you know?
However, if you like the “Bourne Identity” movies for their action scenes, you’ll like the ones in this movie. The movie slowed a bit every time Hanna went through her ‘Tarzan’ phases, experiencing different things in the world for the first time.
We were kinda put off by the ending, too. It just didn’t have any real closure for our taste. They could’ve done better with that one.
From the preview, Hanna seemed like the action scenes would be like watching the girls in Sucker Punch, or Hit-Girl from Kick-Ass, because she looked bad-ass. But the movie seemed to be more about Hanna experiencing the world for the first time, as opposed to her actually beating anyone up. We felt kinda tricked.
It’s worth checking out, but we felt like we could’ve just waited for the DVD.
